Mississippi Cannabis Seeds: Common Questions

Yes. Cannabis seeds are legally classified as hemp under the 2018 Farm Bill. The seed itself contains no meaningful THC regardless of what the plant would eventually produce, so purchasing seeds — including high-THC feminized varieties — is legal in Mississippi. Triangle Seeds ships cannabis seeds directly to Mississippi customers.
Yes. Triangle Seeds ships cannabis seeds to Mississippi home growers. Orders are packaged discreetly and typically go out within 1-2 business days. Questions about your order? Text or call us M-F, 10-6 EST at (919) 410-6945.
Cannabis plants are either male or female. Only female plants produce the buds (flowers) you're growing for. Feminized seeds are bred to produce female plants almost exclusively, so you're not wasting space, time, or resources on males that need to be removed. All of the seeds we sell are feminized.
Photoperiod varieties flower in response to a change in light schedule. Outdoors, they begin flowering as days shorten in late summer — across most of Mississippi, that means harvest in late September through October. Indoors, you trigger flowering by switching to a 12-hours-on/12-hours-off schedule. They give more control over plant size and yield but take longer to finish.

Autoflower varieties flower automatically based on age, finishing 9-12 weeks from seed regardless of light schedule. In Mississippi's warm climate, autoflowers are particularly useful for licensed growers who want to time their harvest ahead of late-season humidity or Gulf Coast tropical weather. Not sure which is right for you? See our Strain Selection Guide.
CBD (cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive compound found naturally in the cannabis plant, commonly reported as calming and supportive for sleep, stress, and everyday discomfort — without the high associated with THC. CBD seeds are the primary variety grown commercially under Mississippi's USDA federal hemp licensing program. Mississippi's warm climate, fertile soils, and long growing season are well-suited to outdoor CBD hemp production. Home growers can also purchase seeds now to be ready if Mississippi legalizes home cultivation in the future. Browse our CBD seeds or use the Strain Selection Guide to find the right variety.
No. Home cultivation of cannabis is illegal in Mississippi for everyone, including registered medical cannabis patients. Unlike states that use plant count, Mississippi's cultivation penalties are based on the aggregate weight of the plants found — penalties mirror the possession and distribution schedule, starting as a civil offense for 30 grams or less and escalating to serious felony charges above that threshold. There is no personal-use cultivation exception at any amount. Many Mississippi residents are purchasing seeds now to be ready if and when that changes. Read the full Mississippi home grow law breakdown.
Partially. First-offense possession of 30 grams or less is a civil offense carrying a $250 fine with no jail time. A second offense for the same amount within two years carries a mandatory minimum of five days in jail, up to 60 days, plus a $250 fine. A third offense carries up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. Possession above 30 grams is a felony from the first offense. Cultivation and distribution remain criminal offenses regardless of amount.
Mississippi voters approved Initiative 65 in November 2020 with 74% of the vote — one of the strongest cannabis ballot results in any Southern state. The Mississippi Supreme Court invalidated it in May 2021, not on the merits of cannabis policy, but on a procedural technicality related to how the state's initiative petition process counts congressional districts. The legislature then passed Senate Bill 2095, the Mississippi Medical Cannabis Act, which Governor Reeves signed in February 2022. The current program is based on that legislative version, which is more restrictive than what voters originally approved.
Yes. Mississippi's medical cannabis program has been active since January 2023 and has grown to over 67,000 registered patients. Qualifying patients with any of 28 debilitating medical conditions can register with the Mississippi State Department of Health, obtain a physician's recommendation, and purchase from licensed dispensaries. Daily purchase limits are 3.5 grams of flower, 1 gram of concentrate, or 100 milligrams of THC in an infused product, with a monthly cap of 3 ounces total. Patients cannot possess more than 3.5 ounces at one time. Home cultivation is not permitted.
Mississippi passed a hemp cultivation law in 2020 but never received the funding needed to stand up a state licensing program. As a result, all Mississippi hemp producers apply directly through the federal USDA Domestic Hemp Production Program using the Hemp eManagement Platform (HeMP) at hemp.ams.usda.gov — the same system used by Kansas growers. The USDA does not charge a license fee, and USDA licenses issued through the federal program are valid for three years — longer than most state programs. You will need to complete an FBI Identity History Summary background check and register your grow sites with your local USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) office. See the full Mississippi hemp licensing walkthrough for step-by-step details.
The USDA does not charge a license fee for the federal hemp producer license that Mississippi growers use. This makes Mississippi one of the most cost-accessible states for hemp licensing entry. The primary costs you will pay are for a USDA-certified sampling agent to collect pre-harvest compliance samples and a DEA-registered testing laboratory to analyze them — both paid directly, with costs varying by acreage and lab. An FBI fingerprint background check is required at application and at the three-year renewal.
Mississippi spans USDA zones 7a through 9a. The northern hill country sits in zone 7a, the central region falls in zones 8a and 8b, and the Gulf Coast counties around Biloxi and Gulfport reach zone 9a. The outdoor growing season runs from mid-April through October in the north and from late March through November along the coast. Mississippi's warm, humid summers and fertile soils make it an excellent outdoor hemp-growing state. Photoperiod varieties typically finish in late September through October across most of the state. In coastal areas, late-summer humidity can challenge floral CBD hemp during flowering — mold-resistant genetics are worth prioritizing there. Enter your zip code on our zone map for your specific window, then browse our full-season varieties, short-season varieties, or autoflowering varieties.
In northern Mississippi (zone 7a), start seeds indoors in late March to early April and transplant outdoors after your last frost — typically mid-April. Photoperiod varieties started in April will flower in late August and finish in late September through October. In central Mississippi (zones 8a-8b), transplants can go out in early to mid-April. Along the Gulf Coast (zone 9a), you can push transplants to late March and autoflowers can run from March through November with timing adjusted for summer humidity. Check your zip code on our outdoor planting tool for your exact dates, or see our germination guide for step-by-step starting instructions.
