What Makes a Strain High-CBD and Low-THC
Every cannabis plant starts with the same compound, CBGA, and converts it into other cannabinoids. Genetics decide where most of it goes. A CBD-dominant plant turns most of it into CBD, which leaves little room for THC. In a CBG-dominant plant like Crystal Vision, the conversion mostly stalls, so CBG builds up instead.
The legal line follows from that. Under the 2018 Farm Bill, cannabis is hemp when it tests at or below 0.3 percent total delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis. The USDA's hemp production rule sets federal testing, and most states license growers on top of it.

There Is No Zero-THC Strain
Every cannabis plant produces some THC, including hemp. What you can find are strains where THC stays very low next to CBD, low enough to test at or below the 0.3 percent total delta-9 THC limit.
Harvest timing decides whether you stay there. CBD levels off late in flower while THC keeps climbing, so a crop left too long can test over the limit. Most CBD varieties are ready when trichomes turn from clear to mostly cloudy.
If you grow under a hemp license, plan the harvest around your state's compliance test. Under the federal rule, harvest has to happen within 30 days of the sample.
