Common Questions
A viable seed is mature, firm, and dark in color — typically brown, tan, or grey with subtle striping. Pale green or white seeds were harvested too early and are unlikely to germinate. Size is less important than color and firmness. When in doubt, the float test gives a rough indication: seeds that sink after 30 minutes in water tend to be viable; those that float are more likely duds. See our germination guide for the full process.
The paper towel method is reliable and simple: place seeds between two damp paper towels, keep them in a warm dark spot (70-85°F), and check every 12-24 hours. Most seeds crack and show a taproot within 24-72 hours. Once the taproot is 0.5-1 inch long, transplant carefully into your growing medium with the taproot facing down. Full step-by-step instructions are in our germination guide.
Buy exactly as many as you plan to grow. Triangle Hemp seeds are backed by a germination guarantee — if you follow our germination guide and a seed does not sprout, we make it right. For new growers, three to five plants is a manageable number to start with. You can always order more once you know what works for your setup.
Yes. Indoor growing is not season-dependent. You control the light schedule, temperature, and humidity regardless of what's happening outside. Photoperiod plants require a 12/12 light switch to flower; autoflowers complete their cycle on a fixed timeline without any schedule change. Indoor growing works in any state, any time of year.
Properly stored cannabis seeds stay viable for 2-5 years. The enemies are heat, light, and moisture. Store seeds in an airtight container in a cool, dark place — a refrigerator works well for long-term storage. Avoid temperature fluctuations, which cause condensation inside the container and degrade the seed. Do not freeze unless storing for more than two years.

THC and THCa are effectively the same thing. THCa is simply what THC is called while it exists in the living plant before heat is applied. When you smoke or vaporize it, THCa converts to THC. The seeds are the same seeds. Read more about THCa vs regular cannabis.
