Missouri Cannabis Seeds: Common Questions

Yes. Missouri voters approved Amendment 3 on November 8, 2022, legalizing adult-use cannabis effective December 8, 2022. Adults 21 and older may legally purchase cannabis seeds. Note that home cultivation in Missouri requires a separate consumer personal cultivation card from the state before you can legally grow. Triangle Hemp ships cannabis seeds directly to Missouri customers.

Cannabis plants are either male or female. Only female plants produce the buds (flowers) you're growing for. Feminized seeds are bred to produce female plants almost exclusively, so you're not wasting space, time, or resources on males that need to be removed. All of the seeds we sell are feminized.
Photoperiod varieties flower in response to a change in light schedule. Outdoors, they begin flowering naturally as days shorten in late summer. Indoors, you trigger flowering by switching to a 12-hours-on/12-hours-off schedule. They typically take longer to finish but give you more control over plant size and yield.

Autoflower varieties flower automatically based on age, usually finishing 9-12 weeks from seed regardless of light schedule. Given Missouri's humid late summers and mold pressure in August and September, autoflowers that finish earlier in the season are a practical outdoor choice. Not sure which is right for you? See our Strain Selection Guide.
CBD (cannabidiol) and CBG (cannabigerol) are non-psychoactive compounds found naturally in the cannabis plant. People commonly report CBD as calming and supportive for sleep, stress, and everyday discomfort. CBG is often described as more clarifying, associated with focus and a lighter sense of ease. Both are widely used as alternatives to pharmaceutical options for mild anxiety, inflammation, and pain.

Many growers find that blending CBD or CBG varieties with THC varieties produces a more balanced experience. Growing your own gives you direct control over what goes into your plants. Check out our Strain Selection Guide to explore our hemp varieties.
Yes. Missouri is one of the few legal states that requires a consumer personal cultivation identification card before you can grow at home. The card is issued by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) and costs $100 per year. You must apply through the DHSS online portal and attest that your grow space is enclosed, locked, and not visible from outside. Growing without a valid card is not authorized under Amendment 3. Read the full Missouri home grow law breakdown for details.
Each cultivation cardholder may grow up to 18 plants total, split across three tiers: 6 flowering plants, 6 non-flowering plants (over 14 inches tall), and 6 clones (under 14 inches tall). The three-tier structure allows a continuous cycle — clones rooting, plants in vegetative growth, and plants in flower all at the same time. The 6-plant flowering cap is the binding limit. If two adults at the same address both hold valid cards, the household cap rises to 12 flowering plants. Read the full Missouri home grow law breakdown for details.
Yes, but outdoor grows must meet the same enclosed, locked, and not-publicly-visible requirements as indoor grows. An open backyard garden does not comply — a locked greenhouse or fully enclosed locked structure is required. Missouri's outdoor season runs roughly late April through October in most of the state. Use our zone map to find your specific planting window. For the full breakdown, see our Missouri home grow laws guide.
Yes. Each plant must be clearly labeled with your name and cultivation license number. This is a requirement on the DHSS application and is how authorities confirm you are growing legally. A waterproof label on each plant's stake or container covers the requirement. Keep a copy of your cultivation card with your grow documentation.
Missouri spans USDA Zones 5-7 with most of the state in Zones 5b-6b. The outdoor season runs late April through October in central and southern Missouri, with shorter windows in the north. Summer heat and high humidity in August and September create mold pressure, so genetics with strong mold and botrytis resistance are worth prioritizing for outdoor grows. Autoflowering varieties that finish before peak late-summer humidity are a smart choice. Short-season photoperiod varieties finishing in September are also viable. Enter your zip code on our zone map for your specific dates, then browse autoflowering varieties or short-season varieties.
Most Missouri outdoor growers start seeds indoors in mid-to-late April and transplant after the last frost, typically late April in southern Missouri and mid-May in the north. Autoflowering varieties can be started later since they are not dependent on day length. Remember that outdoor plants must be in an enclosed, locked structure — plan your setup before germinating. Check your zip code on our zone map for specific frost dates, or see our germination guide for step-by-step starting instructions.
