Oregon Cannabis Seeds: Common Questions

Yes. Oregon voters passed Measure 91 in November 2014, and home cultivation for adults 21 and older has been legal since July 1, 2015 under ORS 475C.305. Adults may legally purchase cannabis seeds for personal cultivation without a permit, registration, or card. Triangle Hemp ships cannabis seeds directly to Oregon customers.
Yes. Triangle Hemp ships cannabis seeds to Oregon home growers. Orders are packaged discreetly and typically go out within 1-2 business days. Questions about your order? Text or call us M-F, 10-6 EST at (919) 410-6945.
Cannabis plants are either male or female. Only female plants produce the buds (flowers) you're growing for. Feminized seeds are bred to produce female plants almost exclusively, so you're not wasting space, time, or resources on males that need to be removed. All of the seeds we sell are feminized.
Photoperiod varieties flower in response to a change in light schedule. Outdoors, they begin flowering naturally as days shorten in late summer. Indoors, you trigger flowering by switching to a 12-hours-on/12-hours-off schedule. They typically take longer to finish but give more control over plant size and yield.

Autoflower varieties flower automatically based on age, usually finishing 9-12 weeks from seed regardless of light schedule. Western Oregon's excellent climate supports full-season photoperiod varieties outdoors, but autoflowers are a strong choice for growers in eastern Oregon, higher elevations, or those wanting multiple harvests per season. Not sure which is right for you? See our Strain Selection Guide.
CBD (cannabidiol) and CBG (cannabigerol) are non-psychoactive compounds found naturally in the cannabis plant. People commonly report CBD as calming and supportive for sleep, stress, and everyday discomfort. CBG is often described as more clarifying, associated with focus and a lighter sense of ease. Both are widely used as alternatives to pharmaceutical options for mild anxiety, inflammation, and pain.

Many growers find that blending CBD or CBG varieties with THC varieties produces a more balanced experience. Growing your own gives you direct control over what goes into your plants. Check out our Strain Selection Guide to explore our hemp varieties.
Oregon allows four plants per household under ORS 475C.305. This is a household cap, not a per-person limit — it does not increase regardless of how many adults live at the address. Oregon counts all plants at all growth stages toward the four-plant limit; there is no separate seedling category. No registration or plant tagging is required. Read the full Oregon home grow law breakdown for details.
Yes. Outdoor cultivation is permitted under state law as long as plants are not visible from a public place. State law does not require a locked enclosure for recreational home grows — visibility is the core requirement. However, some Oregon cities and counties have the authority to require indoor-only cultivation, so check your local ordinances before setting up an outdoor grow. Use our zone map to find your planting dates. See our Oregon home grow laws guide for the full breakdown.
No state permit, registration, or plant tagging is required. Some local jurisdictions may have additional requirements — check your city or county rules before growing outdoors. If you rent, Oregon landlords can prohibit cultivation under ORS 90.396 — review your lease before starting a grow. Read the full Oregon home grow law breakdown for complete details.
Western Oregon is one of the best outdoor growing regions in the country. The Willamette Valley and Rogue Valley around Medford sit in Zones 8a-8b with long, warm summers and dry falls that give full-season photoperiod varieties ample time to finish. Mold-resistant genetics are worth prioritizing for coastal and wetter western Oregon, particularly as October rains arrive. Eastern Oregon and higher elevations are Zones 4-6 with much shorter windows — autoflowers and short-season varieties are the better fit there. Enter your zip code on our zone map for your specific window, then browse our full-season varieties, short-season varieties, or autoflowering varieties.
Most western Oregon outdoor growers start seeds indoors in late March to April and transplant outdoors after the last frost, typically late April in the Rogue Valley and mid-May in the Willamette Valley. A photoperiod plant started in April and moved outside in May can reach full maturity by late September, well ahead of the first significant October rains. Eastern Oregon growers should wait until late May to early June. Check your zip code on our zone map for specific frost dates, or see our germination guide for step-by-step starting instructions.
