Delaware Cannabis Seeds: Common Questions

Yes. Cannabis seeds are legally classified as hemp under the 2018 Farm Bill. The seed itself contains no meaningful THC regardless of what the plant would eventually produce, so purchasing seeds — including high-THC feminized varieties — is legal in Delaware. Triangle Seeds ships cannabis seeds directly to Delaware customers.
Yes. Triangle Seeds ships cannabis seeds to Delaware home growers. Orders are packaged discreetly and typically go out within 1-2 business days. Questions about your order? Text or call us M-F, 10-6 EST at (919) 410-6945.
Cannabis plants are either male or female. Only female plants produce the buds (flowers) you're growing for. Feminized seeds are bred to produce female plants almost exclusively, so you're not wasting space, time, or resources on males that need to be removed. All of the seeds we sell are feminized.
Photoperiod varieties flower in response to a change in light schedule. Outdoors, they begin flowering as days shorten in late summer — in Delaware, that typically means harvest in late September through mid-October. Indoors, you trigger flowering by switching to a 12-hours-on/12-hours-off schedule. They give more control over plant size and yield but take longer to finish.

Autoflower varieties flower automatically based on age, finishing 9-12 weeks from seed regardless of light schedule. Given Delaware's relatively short outdoor growing season — mid-May through early October — autoflowers are a particularly practical choice, especially in the northern part of the state. Not sure which is right for you? See our Strain Selection Guide.
CBD (cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive compound found naturally in the cannabis plant, commonly reported as calming and supportive for sleep, stress, and everyday discomfort — without the high associated with THC. For Delaware's licensed hemp growers, CBD seeds are the primary commercially grown variety. Home growers can also purchase seeds now to be ready if Delaware adds home cultivation rights to its cannabis laws in the future. Browse our CBD seeds or use the Strain Selection Guide to find the right variety.
Yes — recreational cannabis is fully legal in Delaware for adults 21 and older. The legislature passed legalization bills in March 2023 and retail sales launched on August 1, 2025. Adults can legally possess up to one ounce of cannabis flower, 12 grams of concentrate, or products containing up to 750 milligrams of delta-9 THC. A 15% excise tax applies to adult-use purchases. Medical cannabis purchases remain tax-free. See the full Delaware cannabis law breakdown for details.
No — and this surprises a lot of people. Delaware is one of only four states that has fully legalized adult-use cannabis but still prohibits home cultivation. The original legalization bills (HB 1 and HB 2) did not include home grow rights, and no follow-up legislation has advanced to add them as of May 2026. This applies to everyone — recreational users and registered medical patients alike. All cultivation must take place at licensed commercial facilities. Many Delaware residents are purchasing seeds now to be ready if that changes. Read the full Delaware home grow law breakdown.
No. Delaware's medical cannabis program has been active since 2011, but it has never included a home cultivation provision. Registered patients must purchase from licensed compassion centers or dispensaries. Patients can purchase up to 3 ounces of processed cannabis every two weeks and possess up to 6 ounces at a time. In 2024, HB 285 expanded the program significantly — including reciprocity for out-of-state patients and self-certification for patients over 65 — but home grow rights were not part of that expansion.
Yes, with a license from the Delaware Department of Agriculture (DDA), Plant Industries Section. Delaware defines hemp as an agricultural commodity under state law. Applications for new growers are accepted once per year with a February 1 deadline. You'll need an FBI Criminal History Report and GPS-documented grow site registrations submitted by mail. Every location where hemp is present — including storage and drying structures — must be registered under your license. See the full Delaware hemp licensing walkthrough for details.
No active home grow legislation is moving in Delaware as of May 2026. The original legalization bills did not include home cultivation rights, and no follow-up bill has advanced to add them. Delaware is in the same position as Illinois, New Jersey, and Washington — states where legalization passed without home grow included and where advocates continue to push for it as a separate legislative fix.
Delaware falls primarily in USDA hardiness zones 6b and 7a, with the southern coastal areas touching zone 7b. The outdoor growing season runs from mid-May through early October — shorter than states further south, which makes variety selection more important. Full-season photoperiod varieties can work well in the southern part of the state, finishing in late September through mid-October. In the northern part of the state (zone 6b), shorter-season strains and autoflowers are the safer choice to ensure harvest before first frost. Enter your zip code on our zone map for your specific window, then browse our full-season varieties, short-season varieties, or autoflowering varieties.
In southern Delaware (zone 7a-7b), start seeds indoors in early to mid-April and transplant outdoors after your last frost — typically late April to early May. Photoperiod varieties started in April will flower in late August and finish in late September through mid-October. In northern Delaware (zone 6b), target a mid-May transplant and lean toward autoflowers or short-season strains to avoid cutting it close with early fall frosts. Check your zip code on our outdoor planting tool for your exact dates, or see our germination guide for step-by-step starting instructions.
